Last year's Iowa winner James Hinchcliffe says low sun in this weekend's IndyCar race at the oval could prove "dangerous," and that he is "disappointed" with the start time. Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver Hinchcliffe - who is chasing a third win at the 0.894-mile oval - said the race will be more like dusk with its 6.15pm local start time. The race started more than two and a half hours earlier last year. "To call it a night race may be a little bit generous," said Hinchcliffe, who lies ninth in the IndyCar standings. "I think it's going to be a dusk race. "I think there's...

During the Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix weekend (12 – 14 July 2019) Silverstone will welcome over 375,000 visitors to the venue, a crowd size not seen at the circuit since 1992. This number, on top of the 7,000 staff, contractors and volunteers working at the site inevitably generates casualties for Silverstone’s Medical Services. John Atkins is Silverstone’s Medical Services Manager who together with other multi-agency colleagues has been working on the medical arrangements for the British Grand Prix weekend for many weeks. John, a Registered Paramedic and formerly a...

Karsyn Elledge was shaken up but appeared uninjured following a frightening wreck during a USAC Racing midget car event Tuesday night at Red Dirt Raceway in Oklahoma. Elledge, driving the No. 1, began to tumble down the track entering Turn 3 and flipped high enough to careen over the Turn 3 wall and crash onto the ground outside the track, near the woods. Elledge climbed out of her car under her own power and was seen talking to medical personnel. Karsyn’s mom, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, tweeted that her daughter was OK — and mom was, too, after watching the incident on TV..@KarsynElledge3...

An investigation by the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb’s race director and race safety team found that Carlin Dunne died Sunday after he “highsided coming into the last turn before the finish line,” race officials said Tuesday. Dunne’s 2019 Ducati Streetfighter V4 Prototype was inspected, and there’s no evidence of a mechanical failure, a news release says. “After reviewing footage from the incident,” investigators determined that Dunne had highsided, which happens when the back tire loses control and regains it violently, usually throwing the rider from the motorcycle. A highside...

Scott Dixon says the Red Bull Advanced Technologies aeroscreen will have no impact on the vision of IndyCar drivers after taking part in an intensive test of the device. IndyCar formed a partnership with the technology arm of the Red Bull Formula 1 team to evolve its cockpit protection system following the introduction of the Advanced Frontal Protection. Dixon tested IndyCar's first foray into cockpit protection with an aeroscreen designed by PPG. The five-time IndyCar champion has now trialled a simulated prototype version at Dallara's Speedway base in Indianapolis on Tuesday....

The World Endurance Championship is more than just a racing series featuring impressive cars and talented drivers. Often a look behind the scenes can reveal what makes a championship tick on an international scale. The safety car has become part and parcel of modern-day racing, joining the circuit to control cars’ pace if an on-track incident or bad weather makes conditions unsafe. From the 2018/2019 Super Season, Porsche have provided the official FIA WEC Safety Car in the form of a 911 Turbo. Unlike the 911 RSR that competes in the GTE Pro and GTE Am classes, the Safety Car is largely the...

Sergio Perez says he was "very lucky" to avoid hitting two marshals at the Monaco Grand Prix after they ran in front of his car at the pitlane exit during the early safety car period. The Racing Point driver had emerged from a tyre change and was accelerating out of the pits when he encountered two marshals running across the track before Ste. Devote. One marshal managed to get across in front of his car to the inside barriers, while a second managed stop – and fortunately Perez was able to get between them without incident. Speaking on his team radio immediately after the incident, a...

The heavy impacts last week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway even had an IndyCar veteran like Scott Dixon cringing, particularly when James Hinchcliffe slammed the wall in qualifying. “Some of those crashes, when I saw them, I was like, ‘Oh man, that was a pretty big hit,” Dixon told NBCSports.com. “Qualifying can be the worst because your corner speed is so high, if you do lose it in qualifying, it’s going to be massive. “I was a little worried for Hinch, because I’m like man, that’s going to be a really big hit, much like we saw with (Bourdais, just not as direct head on, but I was really...

Last Saturday afternoon, during a qualifying session for this Sunday’s 103rd Indianapolis 500, James Hinchcliffe crashed his Arrows Schmidt Peterson Motorsport Indy racing car into the second-turn wall of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The open-wheel, open-cockpit car careered toward the backstretch and very nearly turned over before coming to a halt on all four wheels. Hinchcliffe, his red-coloured crash helmet sticking right out there for all to see, wasn’t injured. But two other IndyCar drivers in recent years, Dan Wheldon and Justin Wilson, weren’t as lucky and were killed while racing...
